Hi Billy,
In
regards to Sarah Palin, I would agree that she does not have as much
experience as one would normally have for the VP position, and I know
that that alone throws a lot of people off of supporting her. However,
running a country is 95% dependent on your advisers around you, and 1%
experience, and 4% gut reaction. Overall, I find that my political
views and ideals align more with the advisers and leadership which
would be placed by McCain/ Palin, rather than Obama/ Biden. It is not
just the abortion/ gay rights issues, but also interpretations of
personal freedoms, environmental issues that include good stewardship
without extremism, the role of government in the private sector, etc. I
really think that it is extremely important to have someone in the
executive position who is not so full of themselves that they will not
listen to the council of those around them.
I feel that the
years have demonstrated that McCain is committed first and foremost to
the good of this country. I don't think that's even a debatable fact.
Obama though, appears to have established a track record of personal
aggrandizement above all else. His "if you need me, call me" response
to the deliberations on the bailout in Washington further demonstrated
to me that he thinks about himself and his personal goals first, and
the good of the country second.
I am aware that Obama professes
to be a Christian, and it is not my place to rule on whether or not he
has made that personal decision. However, I feel very strongly that a
person's actions demonstrate the content of their heart. When he voted
THREE TIMES to deny life saving treatment to babies which were born
alive, so as not to "thwart the original decision of the mother" to
"terminate the life of the fetus", I think that goes a LONG way towards
where his moral compass is. You can debate abortion until you're blue
in the face, but a child who is BORN ALIVE, and viable, and is then put
in the basement room of a hospital to die because that was the original
intent of the mother, is downright disgusting.
Obama has openly mocked those who are religious (April 2008 comments about clinging to guns and religion).
My
comment about America not being safe for Christians comes from the fact
that Obama supports a 100% separation between church and state. In
fact, he has received the highest rating a politician can earn from the
AU (Americans United for the Separation of Church & State), based
upon his past voting record and current stance on issues. He supports
even all mentions of religion being removed from the government (Dec
06), and also not allowing government funds to go to faith-based
organizations.
